Introduction
The F R Method is hot of the press having been launched in June 2007. After release, the creator Martin Hill contacted me and asked if I would trial his new method. I agreed and my thoughts and findings can be found in this F R Method review.
What Is The Format Racing Method?
The F R Method uses statistics that martin has gathered over a number of years to put into place a method of selecting profitable races in which to bet and the horses to back in them.
It comes in the form of a ebook with an additional link to some free spreadsheets that can be used to ease the staking calculations and check that the race meets the correct criteria. The first thing to mention is that the ebook is well written and presented in a nice ebook reader that makes navigation, search etc a pleasure. It's written in a no nonsense way which means that you are not left sifting through tons of information trying to find the 'meat' of the system. For instance the 2nd page concentrates on explaining the mathematics behind the method and therefore essentially the methods rules.
Martin claims that when using the method correctly, it should be hard to lose money, a very bold claim. However, on using the method for a couple of weeks, it does seem that the method is profitable. I think the main reason for this is the inbuilt 'safety limit' he has made part of the methods rules and which is easy to check for using the free spreadsheet calculator.
For my review period, I traded on paper and although I had a couple of losing days, I did end up with a very reasonable paper profit for the 2 week period. One thing I really like about this method, is that once you are familiar with the rules, you can easily check back at past results to see how it would have performed for you. This is a great way of boosting your confidence before injecting any of your own hard earned...
The F R Method recommends the use of Betting Exchanges like Betfair to place your bets but I would go as far as saying that using betting exchanges is essential to your success with the FR Method. The reason for this is that due to the fact that this method concentrates on the business end of each racecard you will almost certainly get better prices on the betting exchanges than those being offered by the bookies and therefore this will have a positive impact on your profits. Using an exchange should not be a problem for any of you and if you don't already use them you are missing out in a big way and need to go ahead and create an account with Betfair and/or Betdaq today.
Horse Form Analysis Required?
The F R Method does NOT require that you spend hours each day looking back at previous form / results etc. It uses the markets and racecards to automatically select the horses for you and it takes a minute or 2 for each race you are set to bet in. This I feel is a strong point as I personally don't have the time to complete form analysis for every race every day!
What Resources Do
You Need for The F R Method?
In order to use the FR Method, you simply need
a computer with access to the internet so that you can visit a betting exchange like Betfair to place your bets. It would also be useful if you had Microsoft Excel or Works installed so that you can take advantage of the free staking calculator.
Negatives / Bad Points
I found the process a little boring to follow at times, but then again I do with most systems that are available. It tends to be the boring ones that end up producing the more consistent returns and long term profits. I also think it would have been useful if the staking calculator was a self contained application so that anybody without access to MS Excel or Works could still use it. I must at this time make it clear that the calculator is not essential but it does make your life easier when it comes to working out your stakes.
Also, I found that to make the most of the method, I needed to be watching the markets for each race close to the off. This is because the dynamics of each race can change due to the number of runners for instance, making each race and individual bet. This was not a problem for me but I'm aware that some of you will not have the freedom to do so for every race each day. Therefore is you are in such a position you need to carefully consider this.
Just in case the above has got you thinking that this method just backs late market movers, let me assure you it has nothing to do with backing steamers at all.
Summary / Recommendation
The Format Racing Method is a quality publication that I can give my recommendation to. It seems to have been developed on firm foundations using past performance and results to set the rules. The inbuilt 'safety limit' appears to make it very difficult for you to lose money.
At only £99 at the time of
this review, the F R Method is well worth the investment.
